I got what I expected. This is the second time I’ve been burnt by a crowdfunding scam. It will be the last. Too bad because I really liked the idea of supporting the “small guy” vs the corporations, but I need to learn my lessons, like my wounds, and not make the same mistake again.

Not so loud as to not hear approaching traffic, never in a group ride, never been a problem. Pro’s wear them its called race radio.

I emailed my question as to WHEN the helmet will ACTUALLY ship, as I donated to this campaign in 2019. I did not receive a reply. In June 2022 I sent another email of inquiry, and to date, Sept 2022, still no reply. ONE BIG SCAM, I learned of the product when one of the founders was interviewed on TV & stated the reason for designing this product was to honor the memory of the founders relative who was killed in a bicycle accident in Philadelphia. What an exploitation!! I’ll never donate to another Indiegogo campaign again!!

Comment on 3 Best Bike Horns (and Why They’re Better Than Bells) by T Connolly https://discerningcyclist.com/best-bike-horns/#comment-58430 Tue, 19 Jul 2022 18:53:07 +0000 https://discerningcyclist.com/?p=14990#comment-58430 My bike came with a simple “ding-ding” bell which I still have on it and it’s very nice and polite to let people know you’re approaching.
Then I got a cheap electronic bell from AliExpress which was very loud and sounded like an angry “AAAARRRRRRGGGGHHHHHH”.
So then I got a retro horn just like the one in the photo also from Aliexpress for a few euro’s which has a really nice up and down two tone sound that sounds like “Hel-lo”.
So I took off the electronic “angry” horn. But recently when a car overtook me and then immediately cut straight across me to turn left forcing me to brake hard or I would have been straight into their side door, but they also had to stop across the lane because a pedestrian stepped out forcing them to brake too.
I angrily tooted my nice friendly horn while verbally giving a bollocking but I missed my angry electronic horn in that moment.
It would have been so much more appropriate for expressing my emotional state just there and then.
I’m seriously considering putting it back on for those rare occasions when I need a really loud angry noise……!
I’m sure I can find a space for it on the handlebars for when my other two more civilised and friendly bell and horn don’t cut the mustard!

Comment on Cargo Bike vs Bike Trailer: Which is Best? [PROS + CONS] by T Connolly https://discerningcyclist.com/cargo-bike-vs-bike-trailer-which-is-best/#comment-58429 Tue, 19 Jul 2022 16:42:21 +0000 https://discerningcyclist.com/?p=14115#comment-58429 In reply to Sebastian.

Cargo bikes are preferable for having children either directly in front or directly behind you in my opinion.
A trailer can be ok but preferably if you can stick to dedicated cycle paths and lanes out of heavy traffic.
Transporting children on any bike or trailer in traffic is definitely a risky thing to do.
Apart from that, the trouble with a cargo bike is that if you only have one bike, it’s always going to be a big lumbering cargo bike whether you’re commuting or just out for a social spin.
I use a large sized Trixie dog trailer with my pretty basic hybrid bike.
It’s bigger than almost every other cargo trailer and I can fill it up with a week’s shopping for a family of four using large reusable shopping bags filled at the checkout. Just load it all into the trailer just like into the boot of your car, zip it up and go.
And I have carried a wide variety of other heavy or bulky cargo in it too.
No bike trailer can fulfill 100% of anyone’s requirements, but although this was a little left field, it’s been a very practical and successful choice for me.
A trailer works as good as a cargo bike if you don’t need a cargo bike every day.
And it turns any bike into a real world alternative to a car.
And as soon as you take it off, you have your bike back again for whatever you want it to be.
